Opening Blog

Hello World!

I am very excited about this opportunity to bring you Alex's Virtual Lemonade Stand! If you're hearing about this for the first time, Alex's Lemonade Stand is a non-profit organization helping doctors find a cure for kids with cancer. Alex Scott, the inspiring young girl who was diagnosed with pediatric cancer in 2000, began her mission to fight for a cure, "One cup at a time" through her corner lemonade stand. A simple idea you might be thinking? An impossible dream? An idea so small that a little girl could make a difference in the world?

Needless to say, Alex raised over $1,000,000 for cancer research before she passed at the age of 8 years old.

Alex's inspiration rippled through the community and all over the United States and beyond, raising over 9 million dollars as of November 2006.

Here at the Lower Merion School District, where Alex attended elementary school, and MAGPI at the University of Pennsylvania, we began a virtual lemonade stand project to help connect students in grade K to 12 with Alex's determinable story and create the awareness of kids with cancer.

To find out more about our project: Alex's Virtual Lemonade Stand, please visit:

If you have comments, please post them here!
We would love to hear from you.

The Alex's Lemonade Stand project is to help promote awareness for children that no matter what age you are, you can make a difference. Alex Scott taught us this by creating a lemonade stand at the age of 6, which would end up raising 1 million dollars for pediatric cancer research. Check back as we get closer to the project for more postings!

I am very excited to be a part of a project that gets kids thinking about how they can make a difference in the world! This is a great way to get conversations started about things each of us can do to help make the world a better place.

The Onekama Middle School Student Council is really excited to be participating in this great fundraiser. It's amazing how much money can be raised and how many lives can be impacted on such a simple idea.

Cheltenham HS is very excited to participate in this amazing project. Currently, our Cancer Awareness Club is selling "lemons" to hang on a lemon tree and also specially designed t-shirts. We look forward to the two weeks in April when student volunteers will be selling lemonade, lemon sticks, and lemon squares after school. Hopefully, we will be able to make a difference.
